Art of the Stroke

The Art of the Stroke is an online juried exhibition centered around rowing and nautical landscapes.
The theme is a play on "stroke," the movement that rowers use to propel their boat forward, as well as the variety of strokes that artists use to transform a flat surface to a dynamic visual experience.

The goal of the exhibition is to celebrate the art of rowing and its nautical landscape as well as the strokes used by artists to create form, texture, and mood, be it the wet stroke of a brush, a dry stroke of pastel, or the measured stroke of a pencil or pen.

The exhibition welcomes a range of interpretations, from literal depictions of rowing to broader explorations of water, boats, and nautical environments. What ties the work together is a shared attention to motion, repetition, and the relationship between body, landscape, and water.
